A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own an exceptionally rare and historically significant Henri Roché pastel box, dating back to before 1908 .

An exceptional and rare artist's pastel set housed in two original compartmented wooden boxes, containing approximately 140 soft pastel sticks. The
internal and external labels are intact and read "Maget H Roché, identifying this set as an early example predating the Henri Roche rebranding
circa 1908. The compartments are lined with original aged felt, and the pastels-though some well used-retain a
vibrant range of hues.


This original wooden box contains approximately 140 soft pastels, many of which are no longer available or reproducible due to discontinued pigment availability. The pastels include early colour codes ( under #1000, #2000), a clear indicator of their age and rarity.

Condition: The wooden box shows signs of age and is delicate (please refer to photos).

Authentication: — the logo design places this box prior to 1908, when branding changed.

Before colour was mass-produced and extruded
into tubes, pastels such as these were crafted by
hand in Parisian workshops, where fine pigment
dust hung in the air and each stick was the
product of meticulous artisanal skill. The label,
“Maget H Roché,” situates this set at a particularly
significant point in the history of La Maison du
Pastel — a transitional era just prior to Henri
Roché formally taking over the brand, and in the
immediate artistic wake of the French
Impressionists, whose work helped shape a global
appetite for colour and texture.
